HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT TOILET SEAT?
Toilet design has come a long way from the days when outhouses were the only option. Toilet seats have two basic parts. A top that covers the toilet and a seat that's contoured for comfort. Both parts connect to a hinge for easy cleaning. The seats come in a variety of colors and base materials including wood, steel, porcelain and plastic to accommodate decorating schemes. Designs differ with changes that appeal to individual tastes.
Who am I - why is there a webpage about toilet seats?

I am Frank Metzel, former Sales and Marketing Director of Wirquin Ltd, a UK based manufacturer of toilet seats and Export Director at Hamberger, Rosenheim (Haro toilet seats, also sold under the DiY brand Cedo).

I have more than 5 years of toilet seat experience in international markets with diffferent European manufacturers of toilet seats, working mainly with and selling to Do it Yourself customers - what a career :-)! I would lie if I said that toilet seats are what I always dreamed of selling, but I have gained a lot of knowledge about this product which I want to share on this webpage. Actually it is my first webpage and I also use it to find out if people really want to read what I am writing.
(1 year after the launch of this webpage I have got an average of 5000 views per month of my webpage which I consider as a success :-)).
Selling toilet seats internationally is a big adventure, especially when you have to transport your samples on your own to introduce it to the customers you visit. Have you ever walked the aisles of an international airport with a toilet seat under your arm (or even 3) ? Imagine all the pitiful looks I got!
I once landed in Romania (that's where Frankenstein was born) to visit one of our distributors there and people in the streets were even upset about me carrying a toilet seat around, I heard them saying: "This German tourist thinks we are so dirty that he even brings his own toilet seat to our country!".
I have spent hours and hours in DiY stores, talking to consumers and their needs. Even if a toilet seat is a quite simple product, there is a lot of unsecurity of the consumer of what model to chose from out of the endless choice of different materials, hinge types, colours, shapes etc.
I have often observed customers who stood in front of a DiY rack with 50 different seats who finally left without buying any seat. The main questions and doubts of these customers are always the same:
- Will the new seat fit my bowl at home?
- How do I replace my toilet seat, how do I remove it?
- What are the advantages of the different materials? What are the benefits? What does thermoset, polyproplylene, thermodur mean?
- Do I need a Soft Close? What is the best system on the market?
- What is Quick release and what is my benefit?
- Do I need stainless steel or plastic hinges
- What seat is good value for money?
Due to my experience, I want to inform about the different options and then - if you wish - you can answer to some simple questions which will allow me to identify, find and chose the perfect toilet seat model for you.
I will find a toilet seat which will fit your bowl and explain you all the additional options you can get!
My main job in the meantime:
Check my youtube channel for great explainer videos - there is even one video animation for a new toilet seat, manufactured by French www.dubourgel.fr which is sold in France's DiY chain Leroy Merlin.
I am no longer working for any toilet seat company and have founded my own company in 2013. We are producing so called explainer videos, i.e. videos that explain the features and benefits of a product, a service or a company. You can find some video links below.
I used my first video in Germany when I was still working for www.haro-san.com. We had so much success with this video and I had so much fun producing it, that I decided to have my own company one day, producing videos.
This is what my real passion is - besides explaining toilet seats for sure :-)
